The conference seeks to introduce reflection on the current debates surrounding gender justice. The rationale of the conference is inspired by the work of distinguished intellectuals-activists such as political scientist, activist and author of the book "A Feminism of Decolonization" Françoise Vergès -one of the keynote speakers in conversation with art historian Angela Dimitrakakis- and Silvia Federici, prompting a redefinition of power dynamics and a reassessment of narratives often obscured by dominant perspectives.

The conference will explore key issues such as the demystification of gender identities through photography, the intersubjectivity of women's experiences, and the role of photography as a tool for social justice and liberation.

Participants will highlight hidden histories, challenge normative interpretations, examine curatorial practices, and sketch inclusive histories of women's photography—ultimately seeking to reshape the landscape of photographic Discourse.

All presentations will take place in English and Greek (simultaneous translation will be provided).

The conference "Hidden (Hi)stories: New Perspectives of Women's Photographs" is connected with the exhibition “HerStories. Photographic Practices, 1974-2024” and part of the parallel events programme of the 20th Thessaloniki International Book Fair.
