Dimitris Papaioannou. Inside
A twelve-hour visual meditation will be presented at MOMus–Experimental Center for the Arts, from March 8–17, as part of the Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival’s tribute to the internationally acclaimed artist (director, choreographer, visual artist and performer) Dimitris Papaioannou, with free admission for the public. INSIDE is a theatrical installation that took place in Athens in the Spring of 2011. A room was set up on stage, inside which thirty performers uniformly repeated simple series of movements showing our daily return home in countless combinations and superimpositions. The stage action began before the theatre opened its doors and continued after the last visitor had left. The theatre was open to the public for six hours each day. This is a six-hour, unedited documentation of the work.
INSIDE invites you to watch the action as if gazing at a landscape. It treats the theatre as an exhibition space and the work as an exhibit. Visitors are free to watch as much as they like, sit wherever they like, and exit and re-enter as often as they like.
Backside, a behind-the-scenes film documenting the secret mechanisms of the marathon six-hour performance and the irresistible charm of its protagonists, is presented alongside the video installation. Backside was filmed and edited by Dimitris Papaioannou.
Opening hours: Monday-Sunday 10:00-22:00
